The NAAFI of the Airwaves
Mike Rubery
Born in Worcestershire, Mike joined the Royal Navy in 1979.
Following basic training he was drafted to the submarine service and spent 17 years on hunter killer, nuclear powered submarines including HMS Warspite, HMS Conqueror and HMS Trenchant as a Chief Weapons & Navigations maintainer.
On discharge he was a civil servant for a short period before completing a BSc in Business Computing.
In 2013 he moved to the East Yorkshire Coastal town of Bridlington, where along with
his wife Anne they run a small B&B.
Mike is Secretary of Bridlington Royal Naval Association and Bridlington & District Submariners Association. He is also coordinator for Bridlington veterans coffee morning group and the AFVBC.
Musical tastes are very wide and varied from pop and rock to classical and hard rock
but with a penchant towards progressive rock and the Canterbury scene.
VRN is Mikes first attempt at presenting radio shows having had no previous
experience but tons of enthusiasm to do a good job.
Favourite bands include ELO,
Marillion, Camel, Caravan, Porcupine Tree and Gerry Rafferty.
Current favourite track is Mr Blue Sky by ELO…
